Covid Update

You will have seen from the daily UK News reports, that the Covid –19 pandemic is rapidly escalating in India. We now hear that the pandemic has spread into the underprivileged rural communities we work in.

Until recently, there were few cases in the remote rural villages supported by TREAD, however this has now changed significantly with Covid cases increasing daily.

Housing and facilities in these villages are extremely basic and there are no medical facilities. Even in the best of times, these villagers do not have the means to access any hospital treatment.

Previously the village children and their parents were able to collect food supplies from the centres, the TREAD staff were out in the community supporting the most vulnerable and promoting behaviours that would stop the spread of the pandemic.

State borders have now been shut to stem the tide of Covid-19 spreading across the country. Sadly this means we can’t get supplies out to one of our centres. While two of the four villages we work in are under a partial lockdown.

We are, at this moment still able to distribute supplies in 3 of the 4 villages. There is a very realistic chance that the situation will get worse and a full lockdown might even be considered. We are working with our partners in TREAD India to find safe solutions to how we can continue to support, even if the worst happens.

As soon as the situation allows, we will resume the distribution of emergency food and hygiene supplies, to all 4 villages and get our centres back open again.

We are so thankful for the continued support we receive. Your support means we are in a position where we can pivot and move at speed when opportunities to support arise.
