How can a small English speaking church in SW France change lives in India?
The Chaplaincy of Aquitaine in south west France covers an area the size of Wales and has over 10 different worship centres. The Chaplaincy has it’s own charitable arm known as ChapAid and every year each centre selects a charity to support and aims to raise at least 10% of their budgeted income for their chosen charity.
This year the small church known as the Anglican Church of Condom in the Gers has voted to support Friends of TREAD. They will be fundraising throughout the year and began with a fellowship lunch on Maundy Thursday at which they raised more than enough to support two Grace Tailoring students for a whole year! Take a look at Postcards from India to see how the lives of two students has been transformed.
ChapAid plan to follow this up in May with a book, plant and cake sale at the St Puy May Day Festival. So if you are in SW France on Sunday May 20th, call in to the village of St Puy in Gers France – here is a writeup about last year’s May Day in St Puy to get you in the mood.
“May Day Fête at St Puy, 28th May – what a scorcher! It was our second year of attendance at this wonderful French/ English collaborative celebration of May at St Puy near Condom. What a difference a year makes … last year the torrents of rain ran down the village streets like a flood. This year the temperatures soared becoming almost too hot.
But the good weather brought out the people to our benefit….Our stall was somewhat eclectic jammed in amongst the beautiful local crafts stalls. Plants, bric-a-brac, books and of course home made cakes and jam crowded our area all donated generously by our community and friends. French people seemed cautious about the unfamiliar confections being offered, but that soon disappeared along with the cakes. The French owner of the local B&B snapped up the marmalade for her customers!”
Let’s hope that May Day 2018 will bring good weather and funds to these wonderful volunteers.
ChapAid has more fundraising plans to include a coffee morning with a book stall, a bring and buy sale and a BBQ in a garden with swimming pool – bound to go with a splash! They have a target – they aim to surpass it!
Thank you from Friends of TREAD!
