Trinity Day Care CentreTDCC was the first of TREAD India Trusts Child Development centres and is based in the village of Kudunure, Andhra Pradesh about 40 miles from TREAD India Trusts headquarters at Bhadrachalam. In this rural area of South India there is a need for Day Care Centres for the young children of poor agricultural workers. Their parents work in the fields from morning to night so the older children are often kept at home to care for their younger siblings. This interrupts their education and makes it less likely for them to escape the poverty trap in later years. So in year 2000, funded entirely by Friends of TREAD, The Trinity Day Care Centre opened in a rented building in Kudunure initially for 25 girls and 25 boys of pre-school and primary school age but since the purchase of the whole building through Friends of TREAD, 100 children are now able to attend TDCC. Children between the ages of 5 and 8 are offered places here and can continue to use TDCC up to 7th standard (12-13 yrs). Last summer, the first 24 children left to go on to secondary school but retain links with TDCC by coming in for special occasions and also each month to discuss their school work. Help is also given towards their books and uniform. |
